I never thought I'd say this about a Suzanne Wright book, but I found this one boring. I'm giving it a three instead of a two because the last part of the book was up to her usual standard.Fierce Obsessions is about Riley, a raven shifter who has come to live with the Phoenix pack, and Tao, the head enforcer for that pack. Tao is easily the least likable or interesting character in the previous books and he doesn't really come off any better in this one. He says he's a jerk and I agree. Usually he's just obnoxious, but when change or new people are involved he becomes a jerk to say the least. He's also really boring. Being obnoxious isn't really enough to carry a main character. We meet his parents, but we don't really get into his head unless he's feeling possessive or horny. I don't feel like I got much insight into Riley either. Maybe it was in the previous book, but I don't remember why she is so devoted to Savannah and Dexter or even how or when she found them.
The main problem with this book is that most of it was boring. Usually these books are very funny and the characters are very quick witted, but not in this case. I was really looking forward to Fierce Obsessions, but it didn't have the complexities that the other books have. There wasn't any technology issues (which were cool) or the human extremist issues (also interesting) or even any tension between the characters. This book starts the morning after they've slept together for the first time. We don't know how they fell into bed when they weren't really getting along before then. While there was some discussion about how they didn't really like each other at first, we never got to see how they got close enough to fall into bed. That would have made for a much more interesting book. As it is, I feel like I started from the middle of the story.
Do I recommend this book? Only if you've read the rest of the series and want to read it. It can be easily skipped for the next book, which will hopefully be as good as the last Phoenix/Mercury pack novel.

Suzanne Wright has a funny way of describing characters and situations. You can't help but smile as you read along...Tao and Riley have a way of talking and interacting with each other that is very amusing. The Phoenix Pack stories are all full of action and intrigue, from emotional to conniving, the storyline takes you with it. I did not want to put it down. There are several packs entwined in this book. All of which have their own story to tell. It's nice to see Wright combining forces as well as threats among them. I also like the addition of the human drug lord. Not giving much away, the hot scenes are crude but warm too! The four stars is due to the fact that I would have liked more details and resolution to Cynthia 's character...maybe in a future story?
Read it. It will not disappoint.
I enjoyed Riley and Tao’s story which is the sixth book in the series. Tao is the main enforcer for the Phoenix wolf pack and Riley is a raven shifter that has been staying there.
Both were strong willed and dominant and extremely protective of those they love. Riley was great with the younger shifters and accepted easily by the pack. I especially liked that once Riley and Tao got together, they didn’t try to fight their feelings and just enjoyed being together. It still took a while for them to actually claim each other, but there wasn’t the annoying constant push/pull that was present in earlier books in this series. Riley and Tao complemented each other and made the perfect mates.
This has to be one of the best stories in the series yet. You have a four year old mystery that surrounds the death of several of Riley's flock and the the fact they are now trying to hurt her or her friends. If that is not exciting enough you have a drug lord trying trying to get Taryn to heal his brother. He does not take no very well. And you have Riley and Tao getting together past all their past hangup. If you like this series you will love this book.
Tao is the Head Protector of the Phoenix Pack. He is loyal, fierce, and very protective of his pack. When Riley, a raven shifter is given sanctuary in the pack's territory, he immediately dislikes her, while at the same time wants her like he has never wanted a woman.
Riley doesn't feel totally welcome on the Phoenix Pack land because she feels the vibes from Tao. But she also feels his desire for her. Confused about everything, the fact that they end up in bed together after a party could complicate things. Or it could prove the best mistake of their lives.
I loved this book, the main story was amazing and all the side characters and their continued little storylines were awesome. I cannot wait for the next book.
Another good addition to the series. I love Suzanne Wright's books!! The alpha males are possessive, protective and loving of their females and Tao was no different. Tao accepted his feelings and needs of Riley with no BS. He is as straight as they come with no beating around the bush. Once he claimed Riley there was no turning back. Not for him or her. I liked Riley's loving and protective nature, but also her ability to let unimportant things roll off her back. She adopted the two orphan shifters, a viper and a cheetah, and took her responsibilities seriously. Tao and Riley are both dominant and drove each other crazy. But it was a good crazy, one you could laugh at and move on.
Riley and Tao's story was slow and didn't hold my interest.
I hoped the story would be fast paced as they started with a bang, but unfortunately, that didn't happen.
I didnt sense the passion or any strong connection with them.
Tao was the typical male jealous of any male who approached Riley . But there was no heat behind it, no passion I could sense.
